the last few years has seen parris make a name for himself across a number of scenes, to the extent he is just as likely to be found spinning records for butterz as he is putting records out on berceuse heroique. here at idle hands we first touched base with parris many moons ago when he bought copies of the first release on his soundman chronicles label into our shop. as it is one of our favourite labels we were intrigued to hear what he would come up with as producer himself. needless to say we were impressed. presented here are two tracks that perfectly reflect his sound and our own a nod to techno here, a weighty bass line there, a love of reverb everywhere and all with a view to being played in dark rooms late at night. the 12 inch of burr and blue is idle hands last release of 2015 and we think it rounds off nicely what has been a great year for the label.

the ninja of westcoast electro returns with a cassette tape filled with evil distorted techno. steeped in dark acid and drum machines on overload setting, these are some of the most brutal tracks ever on nyh!

can t joke with dexy is the opener here and is a bumpy, edgy house cut with tense and nervy keys jangling above a roughshod drum line. it grows ever more dark and comic and things roll on before faith is a more breezy, airy house groove. the drums here dance a nimble dance, thin synths and emotive chords all come in rich layers and a lo-fi percussive line proves how frey can conjure up idiosyncratic sounds with ease. like its title suggest, ghosts is a hauntingly atmospheric track with icy hi hats, pixel thing and hugely melancholic chords and harmonic bells all adding a sense of calm and serenity to turbulent drums deep down below. lastly, scale is a sub 100bpm crawler with fat elastic synths strung up between lazy kicks. two filtered spoken word lines add plenty of weirdness to this soupy bit of cosmic seduction and round out an ep that is stuffed with fresh ideas and great sonic invention.

mareggiata a san vito is an ep from vesalio a.k.a. livio improta. a mature and balanced two track ep, explicit homage to the sea and to the roots of the purest italian electronic music culture. the ep opens with *vient*, an hypnotic and dark piece that perfectly mix the british influences of downtempo and break core with dark ambient and italian acid house influences. *terr_one* closes the ep, a never ending magnetic tribal loop piece of twelve minutes. this ep is dedicated to those who lived through the dance floor.

nathan melja is the same young frenchman whose debut ep we released under the name melja late last year. since then, he moved to new york and worked at mister hq for a few months, manned the light booth at the mister saturday night and mister sunday parties (djs make the best light guys), and spent most of his time outside that making music. leo draws is the culmination of that music-making, two murky but beautiful tracks centered around vocal samples and one off-kilter number aimed at the dark corners of the dancefloor.

an ep of golden bug on lddlm has been a long-time coming. paths crosses, encounters, similitudes. but it took all of us time to agree on how golden bug should fit into our mortal ethics of fragmentation: we don t want to sound like anybody else, each track on the ep should all sound different. the french but barcelona based producer played our game, anticipating his future and very diverse album with a spook yet catchy 12inch. wild boys was an instant ear-catcher, some proto funk with a very strong vocal by yan wagner that made it sound like duran duran on speedball. it was hard to take it to another level but lord tusk, one of our favourite producers of the emerging -no genre london scene beefs it up, kraftwerk way. its moody as we all are. ik voel je shows the more experimental spaced out side of golden bug, we d call it space rock if we had to. do not neglect l-horloge, it s slow, dark, menacing but it s a real time bomb if tuned correctly.

locked grooves third release on his eponymous label sees the belgian deliver an intense and driving two tracker. following his memorable collaboration with mind against and a track on life and deaths some things rise compilation, end/scherzo reveals a dark rêverie. end, with its haunting, hypnotizing synths, pulls you deeper and deeper into the vortex while scherzo brings you back up for air with its lively play of arpeggios and crescendos. end/ scherzo arrives on december 11th on both physical and digital formats, while both previous locked groove records releases will be made available digitally for the first time on the same date.

having recently played an eight hour set to a sold-out crowd at london’s oval space, the prolific dusky drop a trio of moody club tool tracks on 17 steps as they continue their european autumn/winter tour. a club tool in the most effective sense, lead track ’lydia’ is dark, nagging acid groover that builds and builds throughout its 6 hypnotic minutes. with all the melodic material based around the lydian scale, ‘lydia’ was originally inspired by a bizarre, trippy dream alfie had in which everything was all based on the lydian scale. a homage to classic techno, ‘bitter lake’ is a hard-hitting surge of looping, percussive energy and detroit-nodding rave stabs that build to a hoover-fuelled breakdown release. rounding off the trio, the brilliantly titled and uniquely composed ‘infinite libido’ again explores dusky’s more percussive tendencies and has been a regular feature in their dj sets for the past year.
